Flamenco discussion in Estepona to celebrate Flamenco Day

The Centro Cultural Padre Manuel in Estepona hosts on Wednesday, November 11, from 18:30 to 20:00 hours, a discussion entitled «Los cantes básicos del Flamenco» on the occasion of International Flamenco Day. Entry requires prior confirmation of attendance at the telephone number 699778574, due to limited capacity. The meeting will feature the flamencologist Aurelio Gurrea Chalé, the guitarist Paco Javier Jimeno and the singer Ana Fargas, together with students from the flamenco singing workshop of the Asociación Estepona Flamenco «El Patio». The event is organised by the Ayuntamiento de Estepona in collaboration with said association, as indicated by the Consistorio. The discussion is conceived as a space for explanation and debate on the roots, present and future of arte jondo, from three perspectives: the academic, the professional and the educational. Gurrea Chalé will contribute the historical vision and theoretical context; Jimeno and Fargas will share their experience on stage and their vision of current creation; and the workshop students will show the living transmission of the discipline. Throughout the afternoon, attendees will be able to hear the experiences of the speakers and, to connect theory with direct emotion, the artists will perform a brief live interpretation of cante and toque. The celebration of International Flamenco Day commemorates the declaration of this cultural manifestation as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2010.
