Torremolinos has received the Andalucía Tourism Award 2026 in the category of Coastal Tourist Destination of Excellence. The award, presented by the Junta de Andalucía, recognises the municipality's tourism trajectory and its evolution towards a more diversified model.
The event and the award winners
The presentation took place at the Auditorio de la Casa Colón, in Huelva, at an event that also recognised other people, companies and institutions in the Andalusian tourism sector. The ceremony was attended by the mayor of Torremolinos, Margarita del Cid, and the second vice-president and regional minister of Tourism, Justice, Deregulation and Local Administration of the Junta, Manuel Gavira.
In this same category, the Mancomunidad Intermunicipal de Islantilla (Huelva) and the Ayuntamiento de Mojácar (Almería) were also nominated.
The reasons for the award
According to the Junta de Andalucía, the award recognises Torremolinos «as a pioneering municipality in the history of tourism» and its «constant capacity for renewal», with an offer it considers innovative, committed to the territory and inclusive. The Junta also highlights its adaptation to new traveller demands and its capacity to incorporate new tourism experiences.
The municipal reaction
The mayor has stated that the recognition «is a source of pride for the whole city and, at the same time, an impetus to keep moving forward». Del Cid explained that the municipality wants to continue working on a tourism model that will keep adapting to new ways of travelling.
Del Cid has linked the award with the Torremolinos festivities in honour of San Miguel Arcángel, which she said begin on Friday, September 25, and with September 27, which coincides with World Tourism Day and with the anniversary of the municipal segregation from Málaga, a date on which the council grants its honours and distinctions.
«If there is something that makes Torremolinos, for many millions of people over the last decades, the best days of the year the ones they spend in Torremolinos, it is thanks to the quality of the people of Torremolinos, who carry tourism in their DNA», declared the mayor, dedicating the award to the residents.
The Andalucía Tourism Awards 2026 are promoted by the Regional Ministry of Tourism of the Junta de Andalucía and annually recognise outstanding people, companies, institutions and destinations within the Andalusian tourism sector.
