The Bishop of Málaga calls, at the feast of the Patroness, for cultivating humility, gratitude and fidelity
In the homily of the solemnity of Santa María de la Victoria, patroness of Málaga and of Melilla, Bishop Mons. Satué highlighted three values as a response to today's social ills.

The Bishop of Málaga, Mons. Satué, delivered a homily on the occasion of the solemnity of Santa María de la Victoria, patroness of the Diocese of Málaga, of the city and also of Melilla, according to a statement issued by the Diócesis de Málaga.
In his address, the bishop noted that some of the ills afflicting today's society stem, in his view, from the "worship of new idols" and from the pursuit of gain by a few, which causes inequalities. Based on this reflection, he proposed three values to confront them: humility, gratitude and fidelity.
Regarding humility, the bishop stated that pride lies at the root of social conflicts and of what he called idolatry, and that it breaks people's bonds with God and with one another. He also considered that the lack of humility among believers partly explains certain difficulties in passing on the faith.
Regarding gratitude, the bishop described it as an antidote to the negativity that, he said, is widespread today even among children and young people. He proposed adopting the habit of ending each day with a prayer of thanks for the gifts received.
As for fidelity, Mons. Satué contrasted what he called today's "liquid commitments," based on bonds that break easily, with the fidelity of earlier generations, who sealed agreements "with a handshake." He gave as examples couples celebrating silver and golden wedding anniversaries, as well as families, priests, religious and laypeople devoted to the Gospel.
The bishop also referred to Father Tiburcio Arnaiz, in whose honor a Jubilee Year is being celebrated, which will close in October, without a specific date being given.
The homily concluded with an invocation to Santa María de la Victoria, under whose protection the bishop placed the Diocese of Málaga, the city and Melilla.
