PSOE denounces collapse in Emergency and ICU at Málaga's Hospital Clínico
The municipal PSOE demands urgent measures from the Junta de Andalucía after the Sindicato Médico's warning about the overload in Emergency and ICU at the Hospital Universitario Virgen de la Victoria.

The socialist municipal group at the Ayuntamiento de Málaga has requested urgent intervention at the Hospital Universitario Virgen de la Victoria (known as Hospital Clínico), after the Sindicato Médico made a call to the public over what it describes as unsustainable care pressures in Emergency and in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
According to the municipal spokesperson of the PSOE, Mariano Ruiz Araujo, healthcare staff are handling more than 650 emergencies daily, under conditions of overload, without enough beds, without space and without staff. The spokesperson attributes this situation to the management of the Andalusian Government, especially glaring, according to him, during July and August, and states that resident doctors are abandoning their positions due to stress and job precariousness.
Ruiz Araujo has also criticized the mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre, for not demanding measures from his own party in the Junta.
The socialist vice-spokesperson and the group's health affairs officer, Carmen Martín, has pointed out that the Hospital Clínico serves the western half of the city and the Valle del Guadalhorce, areas with growing population, without there being, according to her, any expansion project underway. Martín has warned that the training of specialists at the hospital itself, who later choose to leave due to working conditions, is a warning sign.
Closure of health centers in the afternoons
The PSOE links this situation to the afternoon closure of twenty of the twenty-seven health centers in the capital during the summer, as part of the Servicio Andaluz de Salud's (SAS) Summer Plan. According to Ruiz Araujo, only one in four outpatient clinics has remained open in the afternoon schedule, which would have forced part of the population to travel and further overload hospital Emergency services.
The spokesperson has criticized that the Junta did not cover the entirety of staff leaves and vacations during a period of higher summer influx.
Carmen Martín has added that, alongside this closure of health centers, according to her data, there has also been the summer closure of more than 300 beds and several operating rooms in the city, with particular impact at the Hospital Clínico itself. The socialist official cited as an example ten contracts made for the Málaga-Guadalhorce district, a figure she considers insufficient to relieve the workload of the staff.
With this data, the PSOE demands immediate and structural measures from the Junta de Andalucía to strengthen Emergency, ICU and Primary Care in Málaga, as well as an expansion plan for the Hospital Clínico given the population growth in its reference area.
