Antequera's institutional event against gender violence will be held this year on Wednesday, November 25 at 18:00 at the Plaza del Coso Viejo, and not in the morning in the courtyard of the City Council as has been customary. The change of time and place aims to allow attendance by those who cannot do so in the morning due to work or other obligations, according to the City Council.
The event will centre on the memory of María Rico Rojas, a resident of Antequera murdered last July. The tribute has been agreed with her family and circle and will include the reading of a manifesto rejecting gender violence, a remembrance of the women and minors murdered since the previous 25-N and the screening of an audiovisual about María made with contributions from relatives and friends. The mayor, Manolo Barón, has stated that the memory of the victim will occupy a central place and that the details will continue to be finalised respecting the wishes of her loved ones.
Talks, theatre and workshops at the centres
The activities begin on Monday, November 9 at 17:00 at the Real Academia de Nobles Artes, at calle Encarnación, 16, with the talk "Conocer para proteger: la defensa de niños, niñas y adolescentes frente a la violencia sexual digital", aimed at professionals, fathers and mothers. Registration is done with the QR code on the poster or at the Centro de Información a la Mujer.
On Friday, November 20, at 20:00, the Casa de la Cultura hosts the play "Anillos para una dama". Invitations can be collected at the Centro de Información a la Mujer from November 12 to 19, from 10:00 to 14:00.
On November 23 and 24, from 17:00 to 20:00, the Taller de Servicios Sociales hosts the "Círculo de Mujeres Libres", led by Mar Romero, with limited places and prior registration at the Centro de Información a la Mujer.
The educational community will have its part with 12 workshops "Sexualidad sana: afectividad, respeto y consentimiento" for fourth-year students of Compulsory Secondary Education, led by the psychologist Nerea Casado Quintana and the social worker Javier Espinosa Mateos, on November 24, 25 and 26 and December 2, 3 and 4. The project has been running since 2024 and this year has received recognition from the Atresmedia initiative "Contra el maltrato, Tolerancia Cero".
White ribbons and buildings in purple
From November 9 to December 1 the campaign "¡No justifiques, no normalices! ¡DENUNCIA!" will be disseminated, showing behaviours and forms of violence against women as pieces that do not fit in an egalitarian society. In that same period white ribbons will be placed in municipal offices, educational centres and other bodies, and the Real Colegiata de Santa María and the Puerta de Estepa will be lit in purple on the nights of November 24 and 25.
The audiovisual about María Rico Rojas will also be screened on November 26 and 27 in the audiovisual room of the Museo de la Ciudad de Antequera (MVCA), with sessions at 11:00, 13:00, 16:00 and 17:00.
To register for the activities or request information, contact the Centro de Información a la Mujer of the Antequera City Council, on the telephone numbers 952 708 262 and 952 708 249. Theatre invitations are collected from November 12 to 19 and registration for the workshop on the 23rd and 24th is in advance and with limited places.
