After the interval, La tabernera del puerto by Pablo Sorozábal and El huésped del sevillano by Jacinto Guerrero are performed. The concert is conducted by Francisco Miguel Haro Sánchez.

Pieces linked to literature

As detailed by the Ayuntamiento, Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy by William Shakespeare written at the end of the 16th century, which Prokofiev adapted for ballet in 1935. La traviata stems from La dame aux camélias, published by Alexandre Dumas fils in 1848, which Verdi transformed together with librettist Francesco Maria Piave into an opera premiered in Venice in 1853. Scheherazade is inspired by The Thousand and One Nights and Rimsky-Korsakov composed his symphonic suite in 1888. La tabernera del puerto is based on a work by Federico Romero published in February 1935, with music by Sorozábal, and premiered in Barcelona in 1936. El huésped del sevillano, with music by Jacinto Guerrero, premiered in Madrid in 1926 and places Miguel de Cervantes as a guest at an inn in 17th-century Toledo.

A band founded in 1859

The Banda Municipal de Música del Ayuntamiento de Málaga is one of the oldest in Spain and was founded in 1859. For years it was the city's only own and permanent musical ensemble, with an activity centred on public parks and major religious, social and institutional events. Today it maintains a concert season throughout the year, as well as performances for schoolchildren and associations.
