The Carmen Thyssen Museum unveils two exhibitions in October that close its 15th anniversary
'¡Olé! El mito de lo español a través de Andalucía' opens on October 3 and an exhibition on the pictorial side of sculptor Julio González will arrive on October 22, according to the note sent by the museum.

The Carmen Thyssen Museum Málaga will present this autumn the last two exhibitions of its programming for the institution's 15th anniversary.
The first, '¡Olé! El mito de lo español a través de Andalucía', will open its doors on October 3 in the main temporary exhibitions hall. The exhibition reviews the clichés associated with the image of Spain and of what is Andalusian since the 19th century, questioning the folkloric interpretation linked to bullfighting and flamenco. It will bring together works by artists such as Goya, Picasso, Zuloaga, Romero de Torres, Sorolla, Sonia Delaunay, Barceló, Cristina García Rodero and Pilar Albarracín, among others. Tickets are already available on the museum's website, on advance sale.
On October 22, 'Julio González, pintor y dibujante' will be added in the Sala Noble, dedicated to the lesser-known side of the sculptor, his paintings and drawings. The works come from the collections of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía.
These two exhibitions will take over from 'Los Ribalta y el barroco naturalista', which ends on Sunday, October 4 in the Sala Noble, and from 'Manuel Franquelo. El lenguaje de las cosas', which bids farewell on Monday, October 12 from the Espacio ArteSonado. That Monday the museum will open exceptionally on the occasion of the Pilar bank holiday. The Ribalta exhibition will offer its last theatrical visits on September 18 and October 1, at 20:30 horas.
Meanwhile, the exhibition 'Archipiélago. Cartografía imaginaria de la Colección Suñol Soler (1960-1980)' closed on Sunday, September 6 after receiving more than 65,000 visits.
Education and parallel programming
Coinciding with the start of the 2026/2027 school year, the museum will present during the second half of September its Programa de Educación y Acción Cultural. Registrations for the first activities for educational groups, families and other groups will begin on September 22.
From September 16, the four selected works of the VI convocatoria de artes vivas for scenic projects, titled this year 'Identidades', will be announced. The four works will be performed in the museum's courtyard during October and November.
Among the parallel activities, artist and teacher Daniel Parra will give on Monday, September 21 an acrylic painting workshop focused on capturing movement and balance, with registrations open on the museum's website. On October 3, the third concert of the 'Música clásica en la Colección' series will also take place, performed by the Cuarteto Lehmberg, with a repertoire focused on Manuel de Falla for the 150th anniversary of his birth.
Those who wish to register for the painting workshop or purchase tickets for the concert or for '¡Olé!' can already do so through the museum's website. Registrations for the 'Identidades' call and for the Programa de Educación y Acción Cultural will open from September 16 and September 22, respectively.
