Orfeo Suárez and Jesús Álvarez receive the VIII Manuel Alcántara Sports Journalism Award
The award, sponsored by the Fundación Unicaja, distinguishes the best journalistic work of the year and a professional career in Spanish sports journalism.

Orfeo Suárez was recognized with the award for the best journalistic work of the year for his article «El nuevo rey Luis se apunta a la revolución», published in El Mundo on May 5, 2025. The text analyzes the transformation of Paris Saint-Germain under the direction of Luis Enrique, drawing a parallel with the French Revolution. According to the statement issued by the Fundación Unicaja, the jury highlighted the narrative quality of the article and its ability to explain, through the figure of the Asturian coach, a profound change in the way football is understood.
Jesús Álvarez received the career achievement award, a distinction granted by the organizing and collaborating entities. With more than forty years of experience at RTVE, Álvarez has developed his career in television sports journalism and in the coverage of major international events. The jury praised his status as a reference point for several generations of journalists and a career marked by rigor and journalistic truthfulness.
The event was attended by the head of Literature at the Fundación Unicaja, Francisco Cañadas; the president of the Consejo Superior de Deportes, José Manuel Rodríguez; the general director of Sport at the Ayuntamiento de Málaga, Daniel Pérez; the president of the Fundación Manuel Alcántara, Antonio Pedraza; and the president of the Asociación de Periodistas Deportivos de Málaga, Antonio Rengel.
The jury for this eighth edition was made up of Juan Antonio Prieto, first vice-president of the Asociación Española de la Prensa Deportiva (AEPD); Cristina Rico, director of the Activities Division of the Fundación Unicaja; Antonio Ismael Aragón, advisor to the Culture and Historical Heritage Area of the Ayuntamiento de Málaga; Víctor Berbel, head of communication at MAHOS; and journalist Begoña Fleitas, winner of the previous edition.
Since its creation in 2018, the Manuel Alcántara National Sports Journalism Award has recognized the work of professionals such as Laura Marta Loriente, Ander Izagirre, José Ignacio Pérez Hernández, Jesús Ortiz García, Javier Sánchez Ramos and Begoña Fleitas. It has also honored the careers of figures such as Alfredo Relaño, Matías Prats Luque, Olga Viza, Paloma del Río, Pepe Domingo Castaño, José Ángel de la Casa and María Escario.
