These procedures involve teams from Nephrology, Urology, Hepatology, Hepatobiliopancreatic Surgery, Anesthesiology, Intensive Care Medicine, Nursing, Laboratory and Diagnostic Imaging, among other support services. Patient care begins with pre-operative assessment and preparation and continues afterward with specialized follow-up.
So far this year, the hospital has performed 186 transplants in total: 134 kidney transplants in adults, 44 liver transplants and eight pancreas transplants.
This activity depends on organ donation. In the province of Málaga, 67 donors have been recorded so far in 2026, up to September 11, of whom 31 came from the Regional Hospital itself.
The center's medical director, Abel García, has acknowledged "the extraordinary work carried out by the transplant coordinators during days of enormous intensity," as well as the support of the Andalusian Transplant Coordination (CATA) in these processes.
