Unicaja Mijas kicks off its preseason this Sunday against Melilla at the Memorial Imbroda

Unicaja Mijas faces its first preseason match this Sunday, September 13, at 18:00 hours. The rival will be Melilla Ciudad del Deporte (MCD) La Salle, in a match that will serve as the closing of the III Memorial Javier Imbroda and can be watched through 101TV.
This is the first of two clashes that both teams will play this preseason. The second will be played on Saturday, September 26 in Málaga and will be the last test for both squads before the start of the Liga Femenina (LF) Challenge, scheduled for October 3.
MCD La Salle has renewed Carmen García, Laia Moya, Clara Cáceres and Anne Senosiain, and has brought in Andrea Alcántara, Inés Vieira, Roosa Lehtoranta, Lucía Fontela, Iria Losada, Jessie Edwards, Mariam Sanogo and the Malagan Elena Moreno, who arrives from Unicaja Mijas itself. According to the club's statement, Edwards and Lehtoranta arrive as team references: the Australian forward averaged 20 points, 8.7 rebounds and 29.4 valuation in her country's league, and the Finnish small forward is a regular for her national team.
Álex Gómez, coach of the Melilla squad since January 2024, faces his fourth season leading the team. Under his direction, the club has gone from fighting for survival to competing in the playoffs in the last two seasons.
In the head-to-head record between both teams in official matches, the balance favors Unicaja Mijas by six wins to four. However, in the last edition of this same tournament, MCD La Salle won 75 to 61. The most recent official match between them, played on March 29 at Pabellón Guillermo García Pezzi, ended with a win for Unicaja Mijas, who played with a reduced rotation of eight players due to injuries.
Unicaja Mijas player Alejandra Zúñiga has assessed the start of the preseason: «it has gone very well, with a lot of intensity, the team doing very well on and off the court. We are all very excited about what is coming». Regarding the debut against Melilla, Zúñiga has pointed out that the team arrives «with a lot of enthusiasm» although she acknowledges room for improvement: «we are getting to know each other more and there is a desire to compete and test ourselves together».
