The Estepona City Council, together with the Asociación Cultural Unicornio, is organising a week of activities around the writer Stephen King to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the release of «Carrie», released in Spain on 3 November 1976. All events take place at the Teatro Auditorio Felipe VI and begin on Monday, October 26.
Cinema, exhibition and a book
The opening will be on Monday 26 at 19:30 with the exhibition «Universo King», which brings together film posters from different countries, books, records, magazines and collectable objects created over half a century. At 20:00, the Estepona writer Julio Peces Ruiz gives the talk «Carrie White se quema en el infierno» and at 20:30 «Carrie», directed by Brian De Palma in 1976, is screened.
On Tuesday 27, at 19:30, «Christine», by John Carpenter (1983), is screened, and on Wednesday 28, at the same time, «La Torre Oscura», by Nikolaj Arcel (2017). On Thursday 29, at 19:30, the book «Stephen King, The Art Of Horror» is presented, with texts by Julio Peces Ruiz and illustrations by the Málaga graphic designer Andrés Antúnez. At 20:30 «Cuenta conmigo», by Rob Reiner (1986), based on the novella «The Body», is screened.
Closing concert
The programme at the auditorium ends on Friday 30 at 20:30 with the concert «Sinfonía del Terror» performed by the Banda Sinfónica Ciudad de Jaén, conducted by Toni Villanueva, performing themes from soundtracks such as «Misery», «Carrie», «The dead zone», «Salem's Lot», «Tiburón», «Alien» and «Psicosis».
Invitations for the concert can already be downloaded at the Teatro Auditorio Felipe VI website, with a maximum of two per person and no booking fees.
Family Halloween party
On Saturday, October 31, the Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos hosts the Halloween Night 2026 party, aimed at a family audience, from 19:00. The exhibition «Universo King» can also be visited there. The evening, hosted by David Suárez, includes costume contests, a DJ, a children's party with bouncy castles, sweets for «Truco o Trato» and an Escape Room with free registration on a first-come, first-served basis. From 20:00 there will be «Pasaje del Terror», the virtual reality experience «El ascensor» and a performance by Ocean Danza y Acrobacia. At 22:00 Dr. Jones performs and from midnight a DJ.
The costume contest does not require prior registration and the prize giving will be at 21:30: 500 euros for each of the five best-dressed groups and 100 euros for each of the ten most terrifying characters. The bar, with popular prices, is run by the Hermandad Nuestra Señora del Carmen Coronada.
The councillor for Culture and Festivities, Macarena Diánez, notes that the palace will change its appearance to «welcome beings from beyond the grave and ghostly figures that will bring atmosphere to the party», and encourages people to take part in costume.
How to take part
Invitations for the concert on Friday 30 can be downloaded at teatroestepona.com, with a maximum of two per person and no booking fees. The Escape Room at the party on Saturday 31 is booked on a first-come, first-served basis, at no cost, and the costume contest does not require prior registration.
