The Ayuntamiento de Marbella has approved at the Junta de Gobierno Local a package of modifications to 15 urban planning regulations with which it seeks to update the current regulation and make land uses more flexible. The change affects those who wish to launch industrial, commercial, hotel or facility activities in the municipality, which will have a regulatory framework adapted to the current needs of the productive sectors.

What changes and why

According to the Ayuntamiento, the initiative will improve the development possibilities for these activities while the processing of the new municipal planning continues. The municipal goal is for the modifications to come into force in 2027. The mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, has stated that this is "one of the most ambitious and innovative packages of measures" and has said that the purpose is "to provide Marbella with tools that foster economic dynamism and job creation, while overcoming the limitations of a regulation that, in many respects, is still linked to the 1986 planning". Muñoz added that "if we want to be competitive as a locality, we also need to have a regulation that is easy to apply".

Who it affects

The modifications are aimed at the productive sectors and at those promoting new investments in the municipality, in order to revitalise the historic centres, according to the Consistorio. The approval at the Junta de Gobierno Local is one step within the processing, which continues alongside that of the new municipal planning.

Deadlines

The Ayuntamiento places the entry into force of the 15 modified regulations in 2027.
