Nacho Calle and Sergio Pérez win the 14th 'Colombine' Journalism Award
The infoLibre journalists have been recognized for 'Exporting Abortion', an investigation into the difficulties faced by European women in accessing abortion, published in Diario Público.

Journalists Nacho Calle Fernández and Sergio Pérez Sangiao, with the collaboration of Emilia García Morales, have won the XIV Premio Internacional de Periodismo «Colombine», called by the Asociación de Periodistas-Asociación de la Prensa de Almería (AP-APAL) with the sponsorship of Fundación Unicaja.
The award-winning work, «Exporting Abortion», is part of a series of four investigative reports published between April and May of 2025 in Diario Público. The investigation analyzes the difficulties that numerous European women encounter in accessing abortion in their home countries, as well as the trips many of them must make to exercise this right.
Nacho Calle is the current deputy director and head of Investigation at infoLibre and was part of the international team that received the Pulitzer Prize in 2017 for the Panama Papers investigation. Sergio Pérez, an investigative journalist at the same outlet, has received various awards specializing in data and investigative journalism and combines his professional work with university teaching.
According to the jury, it is «an impressive and very thorough investigative work on a topic that directly affects women and reflects the great inequality that exists within Europe». The jury also highlighted the international nature of the investigation, considering that it involves «an added effort that gives it special value».
In this edition of the award, 103 works were submitted from various Spanish-speaking countries. Alongside the winning work, the finalists were «El vacío de Francisca», by Meritxell Freixas Martorell, correspondent in Chile for the Agencia EFE, and «Madre por derecho», by Francisco Javier Oliver Jiménez, broadcast on Canal Sur Televisión.
The jury's decision was announced at an event attended by Esther Jerez, head of Fundación Unicaja in Almería; José Manuel Bretones, president of the Asociación de la Prensa de Almería; Alicia Amate, vice president of the same association; and Santiago Alfonso, vice president of Institutional Relations and Corporate Reputation at Cosentino.
The award carries five thousand euros, contributed by Fundación Unicaja and Cosentino Global, in addition to a trophy reproduced in white Macael marble of the monument to Freedom of Expression located in the Plaza de los Periodistas in Almería.
