People aged 60 or over, members of security forces, firefighters, civil protection, professionals with direct exposure to animals and penitentiary institutions may get the flu vaccine from Wednesday, October 21, by making an appointment at their health centre.
The flu vaccination campaign enters a new phase. Starting Wednesday, October 21, the last groups for whom the vaccine is recommended are included: people aged 60 or over, members of state security forces and bodies, firefighters and civil protection, as well as professionals with direct exposure to animals and penitentiary institutions.
How to get vaccinated
Those belonging to these groups must make an appointment with their health centre to receive the corresponding dose, as indicated by the first vice-president of the Junta de Andalucía and regional minister of the Presidency, Health and Emergencies, Antonio Sanz.
The flu and covid vaccination campaign began on October 1 with children aged 6 to 59 months and in care homes. On October 7, people aged 80 or over were included, and on October 14, those over 70 and adults with chronic pathologies and risk situations were included.
Bronchiolitis in infants
Sanz highlighted the pace of immunisation of children under 6 months against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), which causes bronchiolitis. According to his data, nirsevimab has been administered to 27,583 of the 32,942 infants targeted by the campaign, which represents coverage of 83.7% in less than a month.
This year the RSV campaign will include for the first time people over 60 who live in care homes or are being treated with immunosuppressive drugs and people over 18 at very high risk.
Vaccination without an appointment
Starting November 11, there will be vaccination days without an appointment every Wednesday for the duration of the campaign at health centres. In addition, two vaccination super-Saturdays are being prepared in shopping centres.
Sanz encouraged immunisation of all recommended groups because, in his view, the vaccine is a "fundamental tool" to "prevent complications, reduce hospitalisations and protect the most vulnerable people against respiratory viruses".
To get vaccinated
The groups included in this phase must make an appointment at their health centre from Wednesday, October 21. Starting November 11, people can attend without an appointment on Wednesdays at health centres.
