The Vélez-Málaga Town Council has announced the municipal hiking calendar for the 2026-2027 season, with nine routes between November and May 2027 across the provinces of Málaga and Granada. The first outing will be on Sunday, November 8, with a route between Maro and the Barranco Colmenarejo.

The season dates

After that first outing, the programme will continue on November 22 with the Chimeneas del Negratín, in Granada, and on December 13 with La Senda Perdida, in Cartajima. Already in 2027, the planned routes are the Cerro de la Torre, Los Castillejos and the Castillo de la Estrella, in Teba, on January 24; the Castillo de La Calahorra, in Granada, on February 14; and the route along the old tramway of Güéjar Sierra, also in Granada, on March 7. The programme will continue on March 21 with Tajo Fraile and Doña Ana, in Alfarnate; on April 11 with the route Fábrica de la Luz-Cerro Atalaya-Cerro Verde-Puerto Blanquillo; and will end on May 2 with Arroyo Sijuela-Tajo Abanico-Dolmen de Encinas Borrachas, in Ronda.

Two routes for families

Two of the proposals are designed for families: La Senda Perdida, in Cartajima, and the old tramway of Güéjar Sierra. The aim, according to the Town Council, is for people of different ages to share the hiking experience. The Councillor for Sports, Manuel Gutiérrez, has stated that the calendar seeks to «continue offering residents alternatives to practise sport, enjoy nature and discover places of great scenic and heritage value». Antonio Valladares, responsible for the activity in the Department of Sports, has explained that they have prepared «a calendar that combines routes through very different settings».

What you have to do to sign up

Each route costs 10 euros and it is essential to be a sports member to take part. Places are limited and good physical fitness is required to complete the routes. Information and registrations can be requested at several municipal points:
  • Casa del Deporte: Monday to Friday, from 9:00 to 14:00 and from 16:00 to 21:00. Telephone: 663 999 758.
