The Virgen Peregrina visits the sick in Pujerra and Igualeja

Topics Diócesis de Málaga

The Marian image toured both villages to reach the sick who cannot leave their homes. In Pujerra the Holy Rosary was prayed before the parish of the Espíritu Santo and in Igualeja the rain forced the visit to go directly to the homes.

The Virgen Peregrina has visited the sick in Pujerra and Igualeja, two localities in the Valle del Genal, according to the Diócesis de Málaga. The initiative brings the image closer to those who, due to illness, cannot travel to the church.

Rosary in the church square

In Pujerra, the image was placed at the doors of the parish of the Espíritu Santo, in the church square. Members of the community gathered there to pray the Holy Rosary before the Virgin. Afterwards, the image pilgrimaged to the homes of the sick.

Rain changes the route in Igualeja

In Igualeja, the rain that day forced the suspension of the planned outdoor event and the visit went directly to the homes of the sick. Deacon Cristian Carrasco, a collaborator in these parishes, has said that it was "a day to remember for our villages, which felt the close presence of Mary, the pilgrim woman, especially with her visit to her sick children".

What it involves

Visiting the sick is a common practice of popular religiosity in the villages of the region: the image leaves the church and travels to the homes of those who cannot attend the services. On this occasion, the route was adapted to the weather in Igualeja.
