The Centro Andaluz de las Letras, under the Consejería de Cultura, Patrimonio Histórico y Deporte and managed by the Agencia Andaluza de Instituciones Culturales, has organised three literary gatherings at its Málaga headquarters for this month of October. The sessions will be held on October 19, 27 and 29 at 19:00, with free entry until full capacity is reached.
An essay on the city
The first date will be on Monday, October 19 with the professor of Religious and Urban Anthropology Manuel Delgado, within the series «El bosque en el fin de los tiempos», coordinated by the writer and cultural manager Héctor Márquez, who will act as moderator. Delgado will present his essay «Todas las ciudades están poseídas» (Ed. Capitán Swing), in which he analyses how modern capitalism and contemporary urban planning policies have taken over public spaces. The author has also published «Ciudad líquida, ciudad interrumpida» and «Movilidades desbordadas».
Crime fiction and the post-war period
On Tuesday, October 27 it will be the turn of the novelist and journalist Antonio Fontana, who will talk about his new novel «Mala entraña» (Ed. Alrevés) alongside Héctor Márquez and the author José Antonio Garriga Vela. The work is a choral novel with gothic, magical and surrealist overtones set in post-war Spain. Fontana is the author of titles such as «Hasta aquí hemos llegado», Premio de Novela Café Gijón; «Sol poniente», Premio Málaga de Novela 2017; and «Una mujer furiosa». He coordinates the Libros section of the supplement «ABC Cultural».
Laziness as a demand
The last activity, on Thursday, October 29, will be given by the philosopher Juan Evaristo Valls Boix, within the series «Pensar en compañía», on the occasion of the publication of his essay «Jomo. El gusto de perder» (Anagrama). The author, who has published «Metafísica de la pereza» and «El derecho a las cosas bellas», will address laziness, the rejection of work and the politics of affect in contemporary societies. He will discuss these theories with the journalist Marta Sader.
How to attend
The three sessions are held at the Málaga headquarters of the Centro Andaluz de las Letras at 19:00. Entry is free until full capacity is reached, with no need for prior registration. Information about the programme can be consulted on the Centro Andaluz de las Letras website.
