The bishop of Málaga reviews his first year and announces a pastoral plan

The bishop of Málaga, José Antonio Satué, has reviewed his first year at the head of the diocese, according to the note sent by the Diócesis de Málaga. Satué has summed up his experience in three words: «acogida», «escucha» and «trabajo».
Regarding the first, he has stated that he has felt «very well received» by the people of Málaga, and has noted that «it is easy to enter a society like that of Málaga». Regarding listening, he has explained that it has taken place both in an organized way, through the collaborators of the Obispado, and spontaneously, in encounters with people on the street.
As for the year now beginning, the bishop has announced that it will be the moment to relaunch the drafting of the Plan Diocesano de Pastoral, a document that will gather the diocese's lines of work for the coming years. According to what he has explained, that project will not be drafted «on his own», but through a synodal process in which parishes, hermandades, religious, priests and laypeople will be able to participate.
Ceuta and Melilla
Asked about the situation in Ceuta, the bishop has shown his concern about what is happening there and, «by extension», in Melilla, a city that belongs to the diocese of Málaga. Satué will travel on Saturday, September 19 to Melilla on the occasion of the taking of office of the priests assigned to that autonomous city.
Regarding Ceuta, he has asked for respect in a situation he considers complex and has expressed his support both for the people of Ceuta and for the people who, he has said, have spent more than a month «malviviendo» there, possibly in a manipulated way.
Attention to abuse victims
The bishop has also detailed the changes in the attention to abuse victims in the diocese. He has explained that, in addition to the already existing Oficina para la Recepción de Denuncias, a prevention plan aimed at parishes, catechists and priests has been launched, as well as a support team for victims who wish it, in the legal, psychological and spiritual fields.
As Satué himself has acknowledged, this service is in its early stages and he hopes to gain «the necessary credibility» so that victims who wish may turn to it.
