PSOE denounces cost overruns in Pedregalejo; PP rejects its motion for aid
The socialists request a monitoring committee and aid for shopkeepers affected by the works on the paseo marítimo, rejected by the PP, while they achieve unanimous approval for a motion to improve the south access to the airport.

The PSOE municipal group in the Ayuntamiento de Málaga has criticized the ruling team's management of the works on the paseo marítimo de Pedregalejo, pointing to the economic harm caused to shopkeepers in the area, according to a motion defended by the socialist spokesperson, Mariano Ruiz Araujo, during the Comisión de Ordenación del Territorio.
The proposal, which called for creating a monitoring board for the works, halting the installation of certain street furniture, and offering direct aid to shopkeepers, was rejected by the votes of the PP.
According to Ruiz Araujo, the intervention in Pedregalejo was initially awarded for 5,725,039.62 euros with a ten-month term, and its final cost now exceeds 6.58 million euros, representing a cost overrun of 850,000 euros. The socialist spokesperson attributed this increase to a lack of foresight in the original project and called for the resignation of those responsible for the overrun, in addition to direct aid for shopkeepers, considering the tax rebates applied so far insufficient.
The socialist councilman mentioned the closure of businesses such as Mafalda, Miguelito El Cariñoso, and the kiosco de Guillermo, which according to his statement have been affected by the works during the summer. He also criticized the aesthetic result of the renovation, with porous and uneven pavements and the removal of benches and lampposts, and warned that the same issues should not be repeated in the future paseo marítimo de El Palo, budgeted at 14.3 million euros with a term of 23 months.
A motion on the southern access to the airport approved
In the same session, a motion by socialist councilman Salvador Trujillo on the southern access to the Aeropuerto de Málaga-Costa del Sol did go forward, with the support of all groups after amendments were incorporated. Trujillo defended the need to modernize this access route, recalling that the infrastructure closed 2024 with close to 25 million passengers and reached a peak of 26.76 million in 2025.
The councilman noted that the southern access falls under municipal competence, countering previous arguments from the PP that attributed responsibility to other administrations, and denounced that travelers and workers must cross the road without adequate safety conditions.
Also taking part in the debate was Fernando Barba, an airport worker and UGT delegate, who called for traffic-calming measures, continuous sidewalks, lighting, and a mobility plan for the area. Barba recalled that at the end of February a traveler was hit on the access road MA-21, and demanded that those who work, live, or travel through the area be able to do so safely.
