The first International Fair of the Primary Sector (FIAX), named «Raíces con Futuro», opened its doors this Friday at the Vélez-Málaga fairground with an opening day focused on the business activity of the primary sector and on training schoolchildren from the region. The event, organised by Impulsa Axarquía, brings together companies, producers and professionals over three days around trade and the international projection of local produce, known as kilometre zero.

Opening with institutional representation

The ribbon cutting was carried out by Cynthia Díaz Vallejo, president of Impulsa Axarquía, accompanied by the mayor of Noto (Sicily, Italy), Corrado Figura; the director general of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Blue Economy of the Junta de Andalucía, Natacha Rivas Campos; the provincial deputy and councillor for Agriculture of the Vélez-Málaga City Council, Jesús María Claros López; and the president of the Commonwealth of Municipalities of the Costa del Sol, Jorge Martín Pérez. Students from several schools in Vélez-Málaga also attended, to whom this first training-oriented day was dedicated. As Díaz Vallejo explained after the event, the fair combines the sector's business opportunities with a training objective aimed at children and young people. Natacha Rivas Campos noted the support of the Junta de Andalucía for this initiative to promote the primary sector in the Axarquía, while Jesús María Claros López encouraged the organisers to continue with the project and to strengthen the support of the administrations.

Business, kilometre zero and international projection

The fair focuses on commercial relations, the exchange of knowledge and the marketing of products from the territory. The defence of kilometre zero, that is, local production, is one of the axes of the meeting, together with openness to international markets, with special attention to Italy. The project has the sponsorship of companies such as Viveros Brokaw and Sabor a Málaga, the agri-food promotional brand of the Diputación de Málaga, among other collaborators and exhibitors.

Three days under the concepts Origin, Present and Future

The programme is organised around three blocks --Origin, Present and Future-- that trace the trajectory of the primary sector from its traditions to the challenges of innovation, sustainability and generational renewal. The venue also offers activities open to families, with demonstrations, workshops and gastronomic proposals. The FIAX fair will continue until Sunday, October 25 at the Vélez-Málaga fairground.
