The Junta allocates 435,000 euros to two CAR-T therapies at the Hospital Regional de Málaga
The Hospital Universitario Regional de Málaga will treat an adult and a child with acute lymphoblastic leukemia with two CAR-T medicines, following the purchase approved by the Consejo de Gobierno of the Junta.

One of the medications is ARI-0001, an advanced CAR-T therapy treatment of non-industrial manufacturing, authorized by the Agencia Española de Medicamentos y Productos Sanitarios. It will be given to a patient with high-risk acute lymphoblastic leukemia. This drug combines cell therapy, immunotherapy and gene therapy, and is made from the patient's own immune cells to fight the hematological cancer.
The second medication is Tisagenlecleucel, marketed as Kymriah, an advanced gene and immune cell therapy that is manufactured individually for each patient. In this case it will be administered to a pediatric patient.
How the treatment is made
The process begins with the extraction of the patient's own white blood cells in the hospital's Departamento de Aféresis. Those cells are then sent to a specialized center, where they undergo a genetic engineering process that allows them to recognize and destroy cancer cells. The result of that modification is the medication, which is sent back to the hospital so it can be administered to the patient by infusion.
