The Subida a la Fuente de la Reina turns 41 editions on September 19

The cycling race will start at 10:00 hours from the Pabellón Queipo de Llano, with a route of more than 15 kilometres to the Montes de Málaga. Registration is open until September 17 at www.subidaalareina.es.

The Subida a la Fuente de la Reina, one of the leading cycling races in Málaga, will hold its 41st edition on Saturday, September 19. The start is scheduled for 10:00 hours from the esplanade of the Pabellón Queipo de Llano, in Ciudad Jardín.

Participants will cover more than 15 kilometres to reach the summit of the Montes de Málaga. The route begins with a 3.8-kilometre stretch between the neighbourhoods of Ciudad Jardín and Capuchinos, up to Fuente Olletas. From the junction of calle Olletas with Camino del Colmenar, the timed section starts, climbing up to Puerto del León before reaching the Fuente de la Reina, with gradients of up to 10% at some points.

Overall, the route has an average gradient of 5.6% and an accumulated elevation gain of 900 metres.

Records and prizes

The men's record for the race stands at 36 minutes and 5 seconds, set by José «Quillo» Márquez, while the women's record is held by Natalia Fischer with 42 minutes and 15 seconds. Both are local athletes. According to the organisers, those who beat these marks will receive a trophy and a prize of 500 euros per category, as has happened in previous editions.

Throughout its history, the race has featured cyclists such as Alberto Contador, Alejandro Valverde and Igor Astarloa, in addition to José «Quillo» Márquez himself.

The presentation of this edition was carried out by the delegate councillor for Sport, Borja Vivas, together with the provincial deputy for Sports, Juan Rosas; the provincial delegate of the Federación Andaluza de Ciclismo, Daniel Ortiz; and the general director of Deporinter, Joaquín Cuevas, according to the statement issued by the Ayuntamiento de Málaga.
