Málaga brings together more than 80 municipalities and 200 companies at the Greencities fair
The urban innovation fair, held at FYCMA alongside the VI RECI Smart City Congress, continues this Wednesday the 16th with an awards ceremony for startups and the presentation of municipal projects.

The Greencities, Urban Intelligence & Smart Mobility fair began this Tuesday at the Palacio de Ferias y Congresos de Málaga (FYCMA) and will continue on Wednesday, September 16. According to the statement issued by the organization, more than 80 municipalities and more than 200 companies and entities are taking part to share solutions applied to public service management, digitalization, sustainability, water, waste, and urban mobility.
This year, for the first time, the fair is being held in parallel with the 6th Smart City Congress of the Red Española de Ciudades Inteligentes (RECI), which coincides with the 15th anniversary of this network and brings together more than 50 national and international speakers. In total, the joint program of both events features 115 speakers.
The opening day included a joint event attended by, among others, the mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre; the Andalusian regional minister of Fomento y Movilidad, Mario Muñoz-Atanet; the president of RECI and mayor of Las Rozas, José de la Uz; the vice-rector of the Universidad de Málaga, Juan Carlos Rubio; the president of the Fundación Cotec, Cristina Garmendia; and representatives of Telefónica and the Federación Española de Municipios y Provincias (FEMP). The event included a discussion between De la Torre and De la Uz on urban digitalization, and Málaga and Las Rozas were presented with Intelligent Community Forum (ICF) certifications.
An initiative for collaboration with Ceuta and Melilla was also presented, driven by Cotec, RECI, and Red Innpulso, aimed at innovation and knowledge exchange between territories, with the possibility of creating a joint working group.
Mayors' meeting and debates on municipal management
The first day hosted the Foro de Alcaldes e Innovación - Encuentro de Líderes Urbanos, under the title "Innovación de frontera", in which around thirty mayors from municipalities such as Málaga, Irún, Las Rozas, Logroño, Sagunto, Adra, Benidorm, Getafe, and Rota took part. Ceuta and Melilla took part as guest cities to highlight the role of innovation in their territories.
Among the contents of the first day, a panel with the mayors of Logroño, Sagunto, Ontinyent, and Getafe discussed the use of artificial intelligence and data to improve municipal management. The coordination of services such as water, waste, and green areas was also addressed, and the experience of Santa Cruz de Tenerife in sustainable urban models was presented.
The exhibition area brings together 70 companies with solutions in areas such as smart mobility, waste, lighting, energy efficiency, and digitalization of public services, with representation from eleven countries.
What the second day will offer
This Wednesday, September 16, Greencities will host the City Speakers session, in which participating city councils will present projects related to data, artificial intelligence, energy transition, and sustainability. The Open Call for Startups will also be decided, whose finalists are 3HUB-Biotonomy, Launch4, TECO Mobility, Bideroad, and Intellialert Technologies, with proposals on urban plant infrastructure, energy, sustainable mobility, road maintenance, and emergency management.
