Parcemasa delivers 500 litres of oil from the Ánimas to vulnerable families through the Comedor Santo Domingo
The oil comes from the offerings made by devotees before the representation of the Souls in Purgatory in the chapel of the San Miguel cemetery. Parcemasa collects it and donates it every year to organisations that help people in need.
Parcemasa has delivered 500 litres of oil to the Comedor Santo Domingo so that it can distribute them among vulnerable families. The donation was formalised this Tuesday, October 20, at an event attended by the deputy councillor for Environmental Sustainability, Penélope Gómez, and the director of the dining centre, Damián Lampérez.
From candles to the table
The oil is not bought: it comes from the offerings that devotees of the Souls in Purgatory deposit before the representation in the chapel of the San Miguel cemetery. According to tradition, this oil serves to feed the light of the candles and so that the souls intercede on behalf of the faithful's petitions. After some time, Parcemasa collects the bottles and donates them every year to organisations that help people in need, in coordination with the Social Rights department.
What Parcemasa is
Parcemasa is the municipal company that manages the cemeteries and funeral services of Málaga. Its activity includes the maintenance of the grounds, among them the San Miguel cemetery, where the chapel with the representation of the Souls that receives the offerings is located.
Who receives the donation
The Comedor Santo Domingo is the organisation that receives the 500 litres this year and is responsible for getting them to the families it serves. The delivery is part of the collaboration between Parcemasa and the municipal social services to channel these contributions towards organisations that work with people in situations of need.
The event
The delivery took place this Tuesday, October 20, with the presence of the deputy councillor for Environmental Sustainability and the person in charge of the dining centre. This is a new edition of a donation that Parcemasa makes every year with the oil collected at the San Miguel cemetery.
