PSOE accuses PP of neglect in tree maintenance and sewage networks in Málaga
Socialist councillor Begoña Medina denounces in the Environmental Sustainability committee the lack of maintenance of the trees, after the fall of six trees in a month, and holds the Ayuntamiento responsible for the closure of beaches due to high levels of E.coli.

The PSOE municipal group at the Ayuntamiento de Málaga has requested explanations from the PP governing team regarding the management of urban trees and the state of sanitation infrastructure, according to the note sent by the party. Councilwoman Begoña Medina raised these issues during the Comisión de Sostenibilidad Ambiental.
Medina noted that in the last four weeks six trees have fallen in the city and has called for the approval of a Plan Director de Arbolado, which according to her account was rejected by the PP in this committee. The councilwoman also criticized that the Ayuntamiento does not have a public inventory of urban trees.
In the committee, a new Ordenanza del Arbolado Urbano was passed with PP votes, without incorporating, according to Medina, the amendments presented by the PSOE, which according to the councilwoman were 35 out of a total of 60 articles of the regulation.
Medina cited the case of a young woman admitted to the ICU after a branch fell in Miraflores, and stated that this person has filed a complaint against the Ayuntamiento for the damages suffered.
Beach closures due to water quality
The councilwoman has linked the tree situation with the beach closures recorded during the Feria de Agosto due to high levels of the E.coli bacteria, which she attributes to a lack of investment in separative water networks and in the modernization of drainage systems.
Medina has criticized that the works announced by the governing team are financed, according to her version, by a water rate increase approved by the Ayuntamiento.
In the appearance, Andrés Jiménez, representative of the asociación de vecinos de Parque del Oeste, also spoke, criticizing that neither the mayor nor other councillors bathed at the beaches of San Andrés or la Misericordia when they were under a red flag.
Likewise, Emiliano Cortés, representing a group of lifeguards, stated that in response to reports of fecal water discharges the Ayuntamiento communicated that it was Asian algae. Cortés recounted cases of lifeguards and users being poisoned and denounced the dismissal of several workers, as well as that the beach emergency plan had not been updated, according to his testimony, since 2021.
