The PSOE of Málaga calls on the Andalusian Government for an audit of school canteens and to move towards the recovery of on-site kitchens in schools, following complaints from families about the quality and quantity of the menus.
The families of CEIP Parque Clavero in Málaga have called a canteen strike and a protest at the gates of the school for Friday, October 23, to denounce the poor quality and quantity of school menus. According to the PSOE of Málaga, many children return home hungry and parents are calling for the school's own kitchen to be opened instead of the current system of food transported via cold chain.
Complaints in more schools
The Education Secretary of the PSOE of Andalusia and Andalusian parliamentarian, Patricia Alba, has stated that these complaints are in addition to those registered in other schools in Málaga, such as CEIP Almudena Grandes, whose families have also reported complaints about portions, temperature and food quality. Alba recalled that the Junta itself has acknowledged incidents in school canteens in the province and has announced supervision actions.
The socialist parliamentarian warned that "when cases are repeated in all the provinces they stop being isolated cases and become a model problem". In her speech in the Andalusian Parliament, she reproached the Education Minister for her department acting only after families report the deficiencies: "You follow behind the problems, you assure and put those controls in place after they happen, not before so that they don't happen".
Audit and on-site kitchens
The PSOE calls for an audit of the operation of school canteens that makes it possible to know the inspections carried out, the breaches detected and the sanctions imposed on the contractor companies. Likewise, the socialists defend reviewing the current management model and progressively moving towards the recovery of on-site kitchens in schools, especially in those that already have facilities.
Alba has demanded that the Andalusian Government listen to families and assume its responsibilities: "Less propaganda, fewer excuses and more responsibilities, because the management of our children's food should not be played with".
Friday's call
The canteen strike and the protest at the gates of CEIP Parque Clavero have been called by the school's families for Friday, October 23.
