Vélez-Málaga brings back the Feria de Ganado for San Miguel on October 2 and 3
The Santo Chiquito grounds will host the traditional Feria de Ganado during the Real Feria de San Miguel, with an Atalaje Contest organized by the Peña Caballista on Friday, October 2.

The Real Feria de San Miguel will once again include the traditional Feria de Ganado, which will be held on Friday, October 2, and Saturday, October 3, at the Santo Chiquito grounds, in Vélez-Málaga. The activity will take place both days from nine in the morning to seven in the evening.
According to the note issued by the Ayuntamiento de Vélez-Málaga, this event seeks to keep within the San Miguel programme a tradition linked to the history of the municipality and its relationship with the countryside and horse world.
The concejal de Agricultura, Jesús María Claros, has noted that the Feria de Ganado «is part of the history of our Feria and we want it to continue having a prominent place within its programme». For her part, the concejala de Tradiciones Populares, Lourdes Piña, has highlighted the collaboration with the Peña Caballista de Vélez-Málaga in organising the activities.
Concurso de Atalaje
The Peña Caballista de Vélez-Málaga, with the collaboration of the concejalías de Agricultura and Tradiciones Populares, will hold the Concurso de Atalaje on Friday, October 2, which will bring together jinetes, amazonas and horse enthusiasts. The activity will take place from half past one to seven in the evening on Paseo Andalucía and calle Axarquía.
The contest will feature different categories: best atalajado jinete, best atalajada amazona, best atalajada couple, best atalajado child jinete or amazona, and best enganche. The vicepresidenta of the Peña Caballista, Paloma Lavado, has explained that the contest aims to «give prominence to the horse and to the people who work and enjoy this hobby throughout the year».
The prizes include 50 euros and a trophy for first place, two sacks of feed for second place, and one sack of feed for third place.
To take part, registration must be done on the same Friday, October 2, between three and half past four in the afternoon, at the place established for the activity, on Paseo Andalucía and calle Axarquía.
