In winter, before Lent. The dates are set every year by the Fundación Ciudadana del Carnaval: the contest runs over several weeks and, in recent editions, the street carnival has taken up the final nine days, from Saturday to Sunday.
Malaga Carnival
Murgas and comparsas singing at the Cervantes Theatre, a parade and the Battle of Flowers on Calle Larios, and the Burial of the Anchovy at La Malagueta.

A week in August that always includes 19 August; the exact dates are approved each year by the City Council. Fireworks are held the night before.
Malaga Fair
The big August festival: by day in the streets of the centre and by night at the Real de Cortijo de Torres. It recalls Malaga joining Castile in 1487.
