The Site Museum of the Antequera Dolmens Archaeological Complex will host, on October 22 and 23, the Alliance of Cultural Landscapes and World Heritage Related Sites Workshop, held under the title "Landscape and archaeological heritage: readings and interpretations of the territory". The sessions are open to the public.

A programme with talks and round tables

The workshop will bring together researchers, technicians and representatives of properties inscribed on the World Heritage List. The programme will address the interpretation of the territory and experiences from Antequera, Mérida, the Tower of Hercules, Eivissa and the rock art of the Mediterranean arc of the Iberian Peninsula. The first day, on Thursday, October 22, will begin at 9:00 with accreditation and the institutional opening at 9:30. At 10:00, CSIC researcher Nekbet Corpas will speak about the processes of identification and appropriation of space from landscape archaeology. Then Laura de Miguel, head of the UNESCO Conventions Service of the Ministry of Culture, will speak, and at 11:00 the mayor, Manolo Barón, will give the talk "When the landscape became sacred: the universal legacy of the Antequera Dolmens". Félix Palma García, director of the Consortium of the Monumental City of Mérida, will take part remotely. The morning will end with a round table between 12:30 and 13:30 moderated by the president of the Alliance, María del Pozo.

Rock art, Tower of Hercules and Eivissa

On Friday, October 23, the sessions will start at 9:00 with the intervention of Patricia Hevia on the rock art of the Mediterranean arc. Then, Ana Santorun, director of the Tower of Hercules, will present the case of the archaeological excavation of this property. At 10:00, Ángeles Martín Parrilla, heritage technician of the Eivissa City Council, will address archaeology and heritage interpretation in this city. The conclusions and closing are scheduled between 10:30 and 10:45. The deputy mayor delegated for Tourism and World Heritage, Ana Cebrián, has explained that the meeting will include technical visits to the Dolmens, the city and El Torcal as a complement to the working sessions, and has noted that these meetings facilitate contact between managers and representatives of different World Heritage properties.

Previous meetings and tenth anniversary

Beforehand, on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 21, the meetings of the Board of Directors and the General Assembly of the Alliance will take place, reserved for its members. The workshop is held in the year of the tenth anniversary of the inscription of the Antequera Dolmens Site on the World Heritage List. The mayor has stressed that the meeting "is open to any resident of Antequera who wishes to attend" and has explained that the request to hold these sessions in Antequera was proposed in order to coincide with that anniversary. The workshop is co-financed by the Ministry of Culture, the Alliance of Cultural Landscapes and World Heritage Related Sites and the Antequera City Council, with the sponsorship of the Spanish National Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO.
