The Malaga museum is organising open days, guided tours, presentations and workshops from 25 October until December, and is opening a space in Round Rock (Texas) with two annual exhibitions.
The note specifies that the opening of the branch in Round Rock (Texas) is part of the institutional agreement signed between that American city and the Málaga City Council last July, a point that the published news item did not mention.
The Museo Casa Natal Picasso celebrates the XXXIX edition of Octubre Picassiano, which commemorates the birth of the artist on October 25, 1881. The programme starts that same day with an open day at the Casa Natal and at the temporary exhibition Picasso. Propaganda y activismo político, and with guided tours at 12:00 and at 18:00.
Activities in Málaga
On October 28, at 20:00, the museum's assembly hall will host the screening of the music video for Los ojos del niño Pablo, by Ana Romma, with the participation of lyricist Pedro Luis Gómez and a live performance of the song by the Málaga artist. The music video has been filmed in various Picasso-related locations in Málaga, including the Casa Natal.
On November 17, at 19:00, the book by Ramón Gómez de la Serna Completa y verídica historia de Picasso y el cubismo (1929). Otros escritos picassianos will be presented, in an edition by Mario Virgilio Montañez Arroyo, who will also present the publication.
On December 4, the area around plaza de la Merced will host Brote cubista, an action by Alessandra García that seeks the involvement of those visiting the area and an exchange with residents.
Opening in Round Rock
One of the main new features is the opening to the public of the museum's branch in Round Rock (Texas), with the exhibition Birthing Picasso (Alumbrando a Picasso). The space, located in the City Arts Center of the Texas town, will host two temporary exhibitions each year with pieces from the museum's collections. On November 5, the exhibition Dialogues with Picasso will be presented, which creates a dialogue between Picasso's graphic work and that of artists such as Joan Brossa, José Luis Cuevas, George Condo, George Segal and André Masson. The programme will start on October 25 with Happy Birthday, Pablo!, a popular celebration with live music.
Libraries and families
The programme includes the twentieth edition of Picasso en las Bibliotecas, organised by the Red de Bibliotecas Públicas Municipales de Málaga and the Biblioteca de la Casa Natal. It is structured in two cycles for Primary school pupils: Picasso, en escena, with 18 scheduled sessions for the first and second cycles, and Picasso, primeros trazos, for the third cycle. The sessions are in the morning, at 10:00 and at 11:45, with a maximum of 25 students per shift. In addition, the Picasso en Familia workshops are held every Saturday in October.
How to take part
The open day on October 25 does not require registration. For the guided tours that day, the sessions are at 12:00 and at 18:00. The school sessions of Picasso en las Bibliotecas are scheduled and have a maximum of 25 students per shift.
