The Museo Revello de Toro presents the temporary exhibition "Revello de Toro y la aristocracia española", which brings together ten portraits painted by the artist between 1967 and 1993 of figures from the Spanish nobility. According to the Ayuntamiento de Málaga, the show is the culmination of the events organised to mark the centenary of the artist.

The portraits in the exhibition

Among the selected works, notable are the portraits of the infanta Margarita de Borbón (1976) and her husband Carlos Zurita, duques de Soria (1975). In the first, the painter portrays the aunt of the current monarch in a profile pose, while the duque de Soria appears seated in a rocking chair in a relaxed attitude. The image chosen to announce the exhibition is the portrait of María Josefa Alonso-Martínez (1992), a work that recreates the Baroque and nineteenth-century models of court portraiture and in which the use of a palette of reds stands out. The portrait of María Teresa Morenés y Urquijo (1967) is also on display, the oldest work in the show, which reveals a more schematic brushstroke than that of the painter's later decades. This section is completed by the portrait of Pedro José Torres Olazábal (1977), depicted in the full dress uniform of an infantry colonel with his decorations.

Portraits from the Fundación La Caixa and other pieces

From the collection of the Fundación La Caixa come the portraits of Lluís Deveall i Trias (1978) and Juan Antonio Samaranch (1988), in which the painter seeks to capture the character of both figures. The portrait of Carlos Godó Valls (1984) shows him with the emblem of the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona, an institution he presided over and where he created the Trofeo Conde de Godó de vela. The exhibition is completed by the portraits of Alfonso Escámez, depicted in the honorary doctorate gown of the Universidad Complutense with several decorations, and of his wife, Aurelia Torres Pomata (1993), in which the gaze and loose brushstrokes stand out.

How to visit the exhibition

The temporary exhibition will be open until 29 November 2026, Tuesday to Saturday from 10.00 to 20.00, and Sundays from 10.00 to 14.00. Admission is free.
