The 36th Fancine, the fantasy film festival of the University of Málaga, expands its programme beyond the Albéniz cinema with parallel activities to be held between November 3 and 17 in different venues across the city and the campuses. Most are free and open to the general public; concerts are charged separately.

Registration from October 30

Some events require prior registration and the deadlines begin to open on Friday, October 30. This is the case for the fantasy and horror story writing workshop given by screenwriter Sergio Sánchez, winner of a Goya for «El orfanato», on Friday 13 in the morning at Casa Socorro, and for the children's workshops on Sunday 15 at the Contenedor Cultural, with sessions at 11:00 and 12:30 to create an eternal rose picture (ages 4 to 7) or personalise a cupid (ages 8 to 10). Concert tickets go on sale on different dates: those for the film soundtrack concert by the Orquesta Sinfónica Provincial de Málaga, on Friday 13 at 20:00 in the assembly hall of the schools of Ingeniería Informática and Ingeniería de Telecomunicación, cost 5 euros and go on sale from November 3. Those for Living Camboya, on Thursday 12 at 20:00 at the Contenedor Cultural, cost 4 euros and will be available from November 5. Registration for «Drag Me to the Picture Horror Show», on Sunday 15 at 18:30, opens on November 3.

Literature and cinema before the festival

Before the festival, the Proyecto Pedagógico brings cinema to Primary, Secondary, Bachillerato and Ciclos Formativos de Grado Medio students in the old Paraninfo of the El Ejido campus, with screenings of «Thunderbolts» on days 3 and 4, «Mickey 17» on days 5 and 6 and «Una noche en Zoópolis» on days 9 and 10. On November 4, at 19:00, the writer Ana Merino, Nadal Prize winner in 2020 for «El mapa de los afectos», talks with the UMA reading clubs in the assembly hall of the Rectorado about «El camino que no elegimos». On Thursday 12, at the same time and in the same place, Laura Ferrero will talk about «El amor después del amor» in a meeting led by Miguel Ángel Oeste.

Music, dance and cult cinema

On Saturday 14 the Contenedor Cultural hosts the K-Pop Contest, with nearly a hundred participants, the Asian Party with DJ Culona, La Babie and Jarvy Blaq, a market and costume and makeup contests. That day, at 20:30, the Daleá collective proposes «Cómo llegar», a fifteen-minute route from the Rectorado to the Cine Albéniz for which you must bring headphones. On Monday 16, at 18:00, the Facultad de Ciencias screens «Moon» and opens a film forum, and the Rectorado presents the Microrrelatos Fantásticos y de Terror and Cómic e Ilustración awards from 19:00. The programme closes on Tuesday 17, at 18:00, with the Méliès short film session and ten titles from European fantasy.
