The Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga (OFM) offers two concerts dedicated to Verismo on October 16 and 17, from 19.00 hours, at the Auditorio Edgar Neville de la Diputación de Málaga. The programme includes 15 arias from the best-known operas of the genre and two musical fragments.

A programme of well-known arias

The repertoire will cover titles such as Nabucco, La Traviata, Il Trovatore, Tosca, La Bohème, Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci. The vocal accompaniment will be provided by the tenor José Darío Cano, the baritone César San Martín, the mezzo soprano Mónica Redondo and the soprano Guiomar Cantó, trained and specialised in Italian Verismo.

Direction and context

The maestro Rafael Sánchez Araña will conduct the OFM in Málaga for the first time. Born in Las Palmas, he is principal conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Las Palmas and musical director of the Temporada de Zarzuela de Canarias. Between 2017 and 2023 he was assistant conductor to the principal conductor of the Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria and conductor of the Joven Orquesta de Gran Canaria. According to the OFM, these concerts are part of its commitment to the dissemination of opera and of its participation in the Semana de Lírica Italiana, which this year celebrates its second edition. The production Tutto Puccini is once again responsible for bringing Italian opera to Málaga every year.
