Estepona's beaches will have fixed concrete walkways to replace the current wooden ones, which had to be removed after each summer season and frequently suffered storm damage. The Town Council has awarded the supply and installation of these infrastructures to the company Prefabricados López y Mochón S.L. for 414,304 euros, VAT included.

What will be installed

The project includes 1,250 linear metres of fixed walkways and 80 platform units for the beach modules, showers and footbaths. They will be made of non-slip wood-effect concrete and will comply with the accessibility regulations of the Community of Andalusia. The walkways will be distributed along the coastline according to service needs. The new walkways will make it easier to move along the beach access points, and the platforms will fit out the areas near the showers, footbaths and modules. Compared with the wooden ones, they offer greater durability and resistance to the traffic of beach-cleaning machinery, and reduce maintenance needs.

Wider and more accessible

The concrete walkways make it possible to improve accessibility all year round and make it easier for people with reduced mobility to move from the promenade or the coastal corridor to the dry and wet sand and to the toilet and lifeguard modules. They will be wider than the current wooden ones and will reach 1.80 metres. The award includes improvements: the company will install 30 additional walkway units, the execution period is reduced from the 84 days initially planned to 49 days from the signing of the contract, and the guarantee is extended to four years in total.

Beach modules out to tender

The contract for the supply and installation of six lifeguard and rescue modules, nine toilet modules and one storage module is still in the tender phase; they will be distributed on the beaches of Arroyo Vaquero, El Cristo, La Rada, Saladillo, El Padrón and Paseo Marítimo. The project is part of the beach equipment works in the municipality.
