The dancer Fran «El Boti» gave a flamenco masterclass on Sunday, October 18, focused on the bulería and tango forms at the Tomás Salas theatre, municipal facilities in Álora. The event was attended by a group of women from Álora, Coín, Málaga, Lucena, La Puebla de Cazalla and Estepa, who travelled to the town to take part in the activity, according to the Álora Town Council.

A morning of learning and togetherness

The session ran throughout the morning and combined dance learning with a space for the participants to socialise, according to the Council. The activity thus brought together flamenco fans from different parts of the province of Málaga and from other Andalusian provinces.

What flamenco is

Flamenco is a genre of Spanish folk music developed in Andalusia, with a particular presence in Cádiz and its ports, San Fernando, Jerez de la Frontera, Sevilla and towns in its province such as Lebrija and Utrera, Huelva, Granada and Córdoba, according to the definition in the Wikipedia encyclopedia. Its main facets are singing, guitar playing and dance, and it has its own traditions and rules. As it is known today, flamenco dates from the 18th century, and there is controversy over its origin, with none of the hypotheses having been historically proven. Bulería and tango are two of the forms on which the class given in Álora focused, held at the Tomás Salas theatre, a municipal venue in the town.

Participants from several provinces

The attendees came from Álora, Coín, Málaga, Lucena, La Puebla de Cazalla and Estepa, towns spread across the provinces of Málaga, Córdoba, Sevilla and Córdoba, which gives an idea of the interest the call aroused among fans from different parts of Andalusia.
