The meeting was attended by the ambassador of the República del Paraguay to Spain, Justo Apodaca Paredes; the vice-minister of Comercio y Servicios of the Ministerio de Industria y Comercio de Paraguay, Alberto Sborosky; the trade attaché of Paraguay in Spain, Natalia Cáceres; and the consul general of Paraguay in Málaga, María Soledad Saldívar. On behalf of the Cámara de Comercio de Málaga, the event was chaired by José Carlos Escribano de Garaizabal.
During the session the main characteristics of the Paraguayan market were presented, along with its investment and business expansion opportunities, the incentives available for foreign companies, and the possibilities of integration into regional value chains through Paraguay's position in Mercosur, the common market of several South American countries.
The president of the Cámara, José Carlos Escribano, noted that Spanish exports to Paraguay reached 178.3 million euros in 2025, the highest figure to date, with a six percent growth compared to the previous year and a Spanish trade surplus of 141.6 million euros. According to the data provided by Escribano, Andalusian exports to Paraguay totaled 7.8 million euros and imports from that country exceeded 8.1 million. In the case of the provincia de Málaga, companies exported to Paraguay in 2025 worth 1.2 million euros, compared to imports of 143,000 euros, figures that, according to the president of the Cámara, show the existing room to further develop trade relations between Málaga and the country.
Escribano linked this moment to the provisional application, since May 1, of the Acuerdo Comercial entre la Unión Europea y el Mercosur, which improves the conditions of access for Spanish companies to the Paraguayan market.
Sectors with opportunities
The session focused on areas such as industrial goods, agri-food, services, infrastructure, energy, water and sanitation, telecommunications, and public procurement. For companies from Málaga, the sectors especially highlighted were agri-food, technology and digital services, engineering, renewable energy, construction and infrastructure, water and sanitation, logistics and transport, tourism, and professional services.
The process of consolidation of Paraguay as a regional logistics and production hub was also highlighted, which, according to the organizers, can expand the possibilities for companies interested in using the country as a gateway to Mercosur as a whole.
The meeting included a question-and-answer session and a business networking space, where attendees were able to learn more closely about the possibilities of collaboration with the Paraguayan representatives.
The session was coordinated by the Embajada de Paraguay, the Consulado General de Paraguay en Málaga, the Red de Inversiones y Exportaciones (REDIEX) of the Ministerio de Industria y Comercio de Paraguay, and the Cámara de Comercio de Málaga.
