The concert is part of the cultural exchange protocol that Málaga and Shenzhen signed in 2024. That agreement was forged when a Malagueña delegation traveled to China on the occasion of the opening of an exhibition by the artist Jorge Rando, and held meetings with institutional and academic representatives from Shenzhen, as well as with the contemporary art institutions of Hong Kong M+ (Museum of Contemporary Visual Culture) and Tai Kwun Contemporary, in addition to galleries and art studios.
In those meetings, possible collaborations on exhibition projects related to Picasso and exchanges with the collections of the Museo Casa Natal Picasso were discussed.
As a result of those talks, last year the exhibition «Picasso: Belleza y Drama» was held in Macao, organized by the Museo Casa Natal Picasso, featuring 141 original works by Pablo Ruiz Picasso and the photographer Juan Gyenes.
Also in 2025, two artistic residency grants were announced in Macao, coinciding with that city's Biennale. The selected artists, Sheila Cañestro and Cyro García, developed their projects in artistic residencies between July and September. These stays were made possible thanks to the grant program launched by the Ayuntamiento de Málaga, the result of a sponsorship agreement with SJM Resorts (Grand Lisboa Palace).
