The fantasy film festival of the University of Málaga will be held from November 10 to 17 at the Albéniz, with a competitive Ibero-American section and an audience award of 1,000 euros.
The fantasy film festival of the University of Málaga, Fancine, has announced a new preview of the programme for its 36th edition, which will be held from November 10 to 17 at the Albéniz cinema. The event will open with the screening of '5 minutos más', the new work by director Javier Ruiz Caldera, a comedy written by and starring Berto Romero that has been presented in the Official Section of the San Sebastián Festival. It is the first time a Spanish film opens the festival.
An Ibero-American section with an audience award
This edition launches Zona Iberoamericana, a section that takes over from last year's Fantástico Iberoamericano and will now be competitive. Five feature films will compete for the Audience Award for Best Feature Film, endowed with 1,000 euros by the University of Málaga and decided by audience votes. Among the selected titles are 'La muerte no tiene dueño', by Venezuelan Jorge Thielen Armand, with Asia Argento as the lead; 'Risa y la cabina del viento', by Argentine Juan Cabral, with Elena Romero, Diego Peretti and Cazzu; 'Gummy', the first fiction feature film by Javi Prada, with Javier Botet and Clara Alvarado; 'The End of It', debut by María Martínez Bayona with Rebecca Hall, Gael García Bernal and Noomi Rapace; and 'Upiro', by Óscar Martín, a thriller inspired by the first case of vampirism documented by the Catholic Church in Spain.
Closing and alliance with the Málaga Festival
The 36th edition will close with 'Family Movie', a horror comedy in which Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick work alongside their children Sosie and Travis Bacon in front of and behind the screen. The festival is held in alliance with the Málaga Festival and has the collaboration of the Diputación Provincial de Málaga, the Ayuntamiento de Málaga, Promálaga, the Fundación Unicaja, the Fundación Málaga, Aula Magna, Clínicas Rincón Dental, Cervezas Victoria, the Fundación Rafael Pérez Estrada, the Fundación SGAE, Méliès International Festivals Federation (MIFF), the Centro Cultural Coreano, Nics Lab, the Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático de Málaga, the Conservatorio Superior de Música, the Conservatorio Superior de Danza Ángel Pericet de Málaga and the Escuela de Arte y Superior de Diseño de San Telmo.
