The University of Málaga (UMA) is holding several cultural activities this week organised by its Vice-Rectorate for Culture at different points across the campuses. Most are free entry or with reduced prices and some require prior registration.
Film and geek culture at the Contenedor
On Tuesday, October 13 at 18:00 the cycle «Camino a FANCINE» continues at the Contenedor Cultural, previewing the 36th UMA fantasy film festival, scheduled from November 10 to 17 under the slogan «Programados para amar». The horror film «Devuélvemela» («Bring Her Back», 2025, 106 minutes, original version with subtitles), by Danny Philippou and Michael Philippou, will be screened. Entry is free and includes one drink.
On Wednesday, October 14 at 16:00 comes «FRIKI.exe», a multidisciplinary day conceived as a meeting point for alternative subcultures, with activities to create geek spaces with a queer perspective. Entry costs 4 euros, paid at the box office in cash only and from half an hour before, and includes one drink.
On Thursday, October 15 at 20:00, the cycle «Flamenco Abierto» hosts «Canta mi alma», a flamenco singing recital by Delia Membrive accompanied by guitarist Rubén Lara. Entry costs 4 euros, includes one drink and can be bought online or at the box office on the day of the show, with card payment only, from half an hour before.
On Friday, October 16 at 11:00 the fourth session of the free course «Be Comics & Video Games» (5th edition) takes place, a parallel activity of the festival in collaboration with the UMA Strategic Chair of Video Games, Gamification and Serious Games. The comic artist and graphic humourist Javirroyo will speak in person with the talk «El dedo en el ojo».
Exhibition at Bellas Artes
On Thursday, October 15 at 19:00, «Metodologías para destrozar un cuento picassiano» opens in the Sala Chema Cobo of the Faculty of Fine Arts, an exhibition of paintings by Paula Lisbona (Málaga, 1992) that draws on the imagery of Pablo Picasso. The artist, a graduate and master's holder from the UMA, was a 2026 recipient of the Fundación Betsche Grant and has won first prize at the Muestra Joven de Artes Visuales MálagaCrea. The curator is Pepo Pérez. Entry is free.
Registration open
Free registration to take part with a stand at the UMA Graphic Festival remains open until October 18; the independent comic and self-publishing event will be held on October 22 and 23 at the Faculty of Fine Arts as a pre-festival activity.
The 11th Short Story Competition of fantasy and horror of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters, in collaboration with the 36th FANCINE, remains open until November 2. The theme is «Programados para amar» and it is aimed at the entire UMA university community.
Date change at FANCINE
The festival organisation has brought forward the opening of its 36th edition to Tuesday, November 10, initially scheduled for Wednesday, November 11, in view of the general strike called by the main unions for that day. On November 11 there will be no activity or screening of the festival, which will resume its programme on Thursday, November 12.
