The Coín City Council has put out to tender the construction of a new bridge over the Pereilas river, an infrastructure about 200 metres long that will replace the crossing traditionally used in the area, according to the Council. The work will have two traffic lanes, one in each direction, and a specific area for pedestrian traffic, and is designed to withstand heavy vehicle traffic.
A connection for 4,000 vehicles a day
An average of about 4,000 vehicles a day pass through this point, according to data from municipal technicians. The connection serves both residents and companies and agricultural holdings located in the surroundings of the Pereilas river.
The investment amounts to 4,593,564.45 euros, funded with the aid granted by the Government to repair the damage from the rainstorms, through the Ministry of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory. To that amount is added the works management, which is around 150,000 euros. The contract is structured in several lots and includes the management and execution of the works.
Eighteen months of works
The base execution period is 18 months. The forecast is that the works will start at the beginning of next year.
The crossing used until now is part of the service and maintenance path of the irrigation channel siphon, is more than three decades old and was affected by the storms' rains. The City Council set up temporary improvements to maintain communication while it demanded a definitive solution. Previously, the Junta de Andalucía carried out an emergency action on the so-called Puente de los Tubos, a 184-metre structure that also crosses the Pereilas river, valued at nearly 600,000 euros.
The funding is part of the aid obtained by Coín against the damage from the storms and DANAs of 2025 and 2026. The City Council announced in June that it had received a total of 10,202,389.62 euros of this aid, which it will distribute among various actions.
The mayor of Coín, Francisco Santos, has stated that the work «will put an end to a historic problem in vehicle traffic in this area of the town, since the crossing that has traditionally been used was precarious». Santos has added that the Diputación Provincial de Málaga will improve the camino de la Charca, the main road in the area, with an action of 1.3 million euros.
