The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Consolación Vera, has highlighted the "good dialogue" of the Junta de Andalucía with the Federación Andaluza de Cofradías de Pescadores (FACOPE) and with all the Andalusian guilds in order to "listen to the sector, learn about its needs first-hand and work together in the search for solutions".

The sector's challenges

During the conference, held on October 21 and 22 in Motril (Granada) under the slogan "Desde FACOPE seguimos navegando", issues such as the FEMPA 2028-2034 financial framework, the situation of fishing in Andalusia and the management of the fish markets were addressed. Vera pointed out among the main challenges guaranteeing the profitability of the activity, advancing the modernization of the fleet, encouraging generational renewal and achieving conditions that allow fishermen to continue carrying out their activity.

Thirty years of the federation

The meeting coincides with the 30th anniversary of the constitution of FACOPE. The deputy minister highlighted the role of the federation during these three decades as representative and interlocutor of the guilds and sea workers of Andalusia. "Fisheries policies must be made by listening to those who know the sea, live from the sea and go out to fish every day," she stated. Vera assured that the Andalusian Government will continue working "alongside the sector" and congratulated FACOPE on its trajectory, thanking the work of those who have contributed to consolidating the federation. "Let's keep talking, let's keep listening to each other and, above all, let's keep working together for an Andalusian fishing industry with a present and a future," she concluded.
