The University of Málaga (UMA) has received this 2026 a total of 253.3 million euros from the regional budgets through the financing model, as pointed out by the secretary general of Universities and of Science Industry, Antonio Posadas, during the opening of the 2026/2027 academic year of the institution.

According to the Consejería de Universidad, Industria, Energía e Innovación, that support has made it possible to resume pending infrastructure works, among them the new Facultad de Turismo, with an investment of more than 28 million euros, and the reform and expansion project of the Facultad de Filosofía y Letras, with more than 15 million euros.

The Consejería has added that the financing model will at least double in 2027 the increase recorded in 2026. To measure the results of that investment, the newly created Dirección General de Financiación, Infraestructuras y Recursos Universitarios and a technical working group in charge of assessing personnel expenses have been set up.

New range of degrees

UMA starts the academic year with six new degrees within the academic programming of the Andalusian university system, which this year adds up to 37 programs across Andalucía as a whole and which, according to the Consejería, will exceed 200 degrees in the 2028/2029 academic year.

The new additions in Málaga are the degree in Inteligencia y Analítica de Mercados; the master's degrees in Aprendizaje de Idiomas Mediante Tecnologías Inteligentes, in Biotecnología y Biología Vegetal, in Diseño, Arte y Nuevas Tecnologías: Gestión de Proyectos y Estrategias Culturales, and in Gestión Ejecutiva de Alojamientos Turísticos; and the doctoral program in Marketing e Investigación de Mercados.

The university has started the 2026/2027 academic year with a catalogue of 198 degrees and 10,871 places for new students.

Support for students

The Consejería is also maintaining measures aimed at students, among them the stabilization of public university fees, the discount on the cost of credits passed on first enrollment, and the regional supplement to the Erasmus+ program, which according to the Consejería has increased by 10% over the last legislature.

On the other hand, Posadas referred to the new structure of the Consejería de Universidad e Industria, which, as he explained, seeks to connect the generation of knowledge with the productive sector, especially with industry.
