The Manilva Town Council is working on lowering the kerbs at the pedestrian crossings around the Duque park, in Sabinillas, to make walking easier and remove architectural barriers.
The Manilva Town Council is carrying out the lowering of kerbs at the pedestrian crossings located around the Duque park, in Sabinillas. The work aims to remove obstacles that make it difficult for pedestrians to pass and to improve accessibility in this area of the municipality.
Visit to the area
Municipal officials have visited the works to identify on the ground the barriers that hinder pedestrian traffic. The visit was attended by the head of the Infrastructure and Works Area, Marcos Ruiz; the head of the Social Welfare Delegation, Laura Salazar; the area director, Alejandro Medina, and Lucía Santos, representing the Luisana association.
According to the Town Council, the intention is to continue promoting actions to remove obstacles and achieve greater accessibility, autonomy and safety for the residents and visitors of the municipality.
What it means for day-to-day life
Lowering the kerbs at pedestrian crossings is a measure that directly affects those who travel on foot in the area, especially people with reduced mobility, those using a baby stroller or shopping cart, and older people. A kerb that has not been lowered forces people to negotiate a step and makes crossing the street more difficult.
The work is part of the municipal line of action to reduce architectural barriers in public spaces.
Background
The portal reported on October 19, 2026 on a similar intervention in Alhaurín de la Torre, where Río Genil street, the access to Los Manantiales, was improved with the renovation of a 182-metre median, new streetlights and lowered pavements to make it easier for pedestrians to pass. That work included the removal of architectural barriers on that access road to the development.
