The Ayuntamiento de Alhaurín el Grande wants to complete the repair of the Villa del Guadalhorce road and to do so it needs funding from the Diputación de Málaga. The mayor, Anthony Bermúdez, has requested in the Tribuna de Alcaldes, during the provincial plenary session, that the 2027 budgets include a line of 1.9 million euros to carry out the second section of the work.
The provincial institution has already contributed 1.4 million euros for the first section of this final phase of the works, an amount the mayor has thanked it for. As he explained, that contribution will allow progress on the repair, but will not complete a road he considers essential for the connection between the municipality and the district.
A project ready to tender
The Ayuntamiento has already drawn up the project in accordance with the Diputación's criteria and awaits the final award of the subsidy for the first section. The councillor for Public Works, Teresa Sánchez, has indicated that with that funding the tender will be put out and the works can begin to be carried out over the course of next year. If the 1.9 million line enters the 2027 provincial budgets, the Consistorio will be able to process the tender for the second section in parallel.
Road safety and regional traffic
Bermúdez has argued that the improvement of this road does not only affect Alhaurín el Grande, but the whole of the Valle del Guadalhorce, and has noted that it can help ease the traffic pressure borne by the A-355. «Investing in this road is investing in safety, in quality of life, in communications and in economic development for the whole Valle del Guadalhorce,» the mayor has stated.
The councillor for Villa del Guadalhorce, Susana García, has described the state of the road, whose surface is significantly deteriorated. As she recounted, the maintenance and pothole repair works of recent years have not been enough to resolve the sinkholes and other damage to the roadway. «I, who live there, suffer this road every day because it is in a lamentable condition,» García has stated, and she has backed the request for funds for the second phase.
What is missing and whose responsibility it is
The execution of the first section depends on the final award of the provincial subsidy and on the subsequent municipal tender. The second section is conditional on the Diputación including the line of 1.9 million euros in its 2027 accounts. At the session, Bermúdez was accompanied by the councillors Susana García, Teresa Sánchez and Macarena Herrera.
