Fundación Unicaja and the University of Málaga (UMA) have presented a programme of 14 university micro-credentials, short courses designed to improve employability, facilitate professional reskilling and align participants' skills with what the labour market demands. The initiative is backed by funding from Fundación Unicaja that makes it possible to offer individual grants covering up to 80% of the tuition fee, with a cap of 120 euros per person.

Three areas of training

The programme is organised into three priority areas. The first is inclusion and social cohesion, volunteering and international cooperation, with content on social intervention, equal opportunities, attention to diversity, humanitarian action and participation in cooperation and development programmes. The second area is ecological transition and the 2030 Agenda, which addresses environmental sustainability, circular economy, renewable energies, sustainable land management and biodiversity protection. The third focuses on public administrations and institutional innovation, with special attention to local entities, and includes digital skills, innovative public management, e-government, transparency and improvement of citizen services.

Training connected to the professional environment

According to Fundación Unicaja, the micro-credentials are developed in collaboration with companies, public administrations and third-sector organisations, so that the training is connected to professional reality. The approach also seeks to help students join networks of specialists and to strengthen the transfer of knowledge from the University to the productive fabric. The institution notes that this model of short, flexible and adaptable learning has become one of the main instruments for lifelong learning in the new university context, as it allows integration into broader training pathways.

Who took part in the presentation

The opening event was attended by the Head of Education at Fundación Unicaja, Enrique Gómez-Puig; the Vice-Rector for Doctoral Studies and Postgraduate Studies, Salvador Pérez; the Dean of the Faculty of Education Sciences, Carmen Vaquero; the Deputy Vice-Rector for Postgraduate and Own Programmes and Director of the Centre for Permanent Training, Daniel Navas, and the academic director of the University Micro-credential in Training for Entrepreneurship in Rural Areas and the Agri-Food Sector, Teresa Castilla.

How to access the grants

Those interested in taking any of the micro-credentials can apply for the individual grants covering up to 80% of the tuition fee, with a maximum of 120 euros per person.
